Borrowed Equipment Coverage

August 18th, 2009

When was the last time your contractor (sub-contractor) submitted a loss to a piece of equipment followed by the admission: “Oh, by the way that was not my backhoe—I borrowed it from my buddy, Bob”.  You don’t want to be the one to say:  “Well, then there is NO coverage”.

Did You Know: You can endorse coverage for equipment rented, hired, leased or borrowed on a Contractors Equipment Form

Did You Know: When adding coverage for equipment that is rented, hired, leased or borrowed that the equipment added by endorsement must be of the same type of equipment that is already covered on the policy.

Insurance Education & Social Networking

August 18th, 2009

I recently attended the annual conference for the SITE (Society of Insurance Trainers and Educators) in Albuquerque, NM.  After decades of attending insurance agent and broker functions it was great to be with my “peps” …those involved in the business of insurance education and training.

As a lifelong learner, it was great to learn all that is new in training and education as we here at Insurance Skills Center chart our course to educate a new generation in new ways in this not so new century.   It remains to be seen what part WIKI’s, TwitterFacebook and LinkedIn will play in educating insurance agents and brokers, but certainly this blog is a part of that strategy of being kicked into the 21st century.

I realized that if we think it’s important for agents and brokers to attend functions like our Agribusiness Conference, YBAC or Blue Ribbon Conference to learn and network, we at Insurance Skills Center need to not only talk the talk but walk the walk by participating in an association of insurance educators.

I also realized the value of ISC and IIABA Virtual University VU play in leveling the playing field with those large carriers and direct writers that have large training resources to train and upgrade their agency force.  Independent Agent and brokers have access to Insurance Skills Center and IIABA Virtual University for IBA West members and we are even better armed to bring you the latest and greatest of insurance knowledge required in the ever changing landscape.

If you are in an insurance education or training department for and agent/brokerage or carrier and want to learn more about SITE go to www.insurancetrainers.org.  If you are an IBA West member and want to learn more about Big I Virtual University go to www.insuranceskillscenter.com and select Virtual University.  If you are not a member,  check out www.IBAWest.com for membership information.  As always find out what is happening at Insurance Skills Center at www.insuranceskillscenter.com.

BOP and Seasonal Increase

June 25th, 2009

One of the benefits of the BOP is the built in Seasonal Increase of 25%.  This is sometimes referred to as a Peak Season Extension.:

Did You Know that the 25% automatic increase only applies if the limit on the Declarations is 100% to value based on the lesser of the actual values for 12 months prior to the loss or the amount for the entire time the insured has been in business.

Did You Know that if you reduce the amount of insurance you offer on a BOP in acknowledgment that there is an automatic 25% increase that you nullify this built in extension.
